Hope for Women launches books and website

On 30th July 2013 we  launched our website as a new tool to reach to the public and as a mean to disseminate information and actively involve the public in the discussions, activities, campaigns and events. The website was launched by the Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights Dr Aamal Ali.

One of the key features of the website is the online access to our publications. These include “Women’s Rights through an Islamic Lens” (އިސްލާމީ ނަޒަރަކުންއަންހެނުންގެ ޙައްޤުތައް) authored by Hope for Women’s Chairperson Aneesa Ahmed with Dr Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa acting as a resource person  and a summary of the “Domestic Violence Act, 2012” (ގެވެށި އަނިޔާ ހުއްޓުވުމުގެ ގާނޫނުގެ ތެރެއިން). Along with this, Dhivehi translations of three publications by Sisters of Islam. “Are Muslim men allowed to beat their wives?”(މުސްލިމް ފިރިހެނުންނަށް އެބައިމީހުންގެ އަނބިންގެ ގައިގައި ތެޅުމުގެ ހުއްދަ އޮވޭތަ؟),“Are women and men equal before Allah?”(ﷲގެ ޙަޟުރަތުގައި އަންހެނުންނާއި ފިރިހެނުން ހަމަހަމަތޯއެވެ؟) and“Musawah Framework for Action”(މުސާވާގެ އަމަލީ ފިޔަވަޅު އެޅުމުގެ އޮނިގަނޑު) were also launched. These publications are available on our website’s download tab.

The ceremony was held at Social Centre’s Seminar hall that was attended by officials of Ministry of Gender, Family and Human Rights, Hope’s board, members, partners, contributors along with civil society organizations.
